Synopsis

Based on the true story of Ringret, a young woman from northern Nigeria who was raped by a persistent admirer and later pressured into early marriage by her parents, this narrative documentary examines feminism through the voices of women undeterred by the ‘bitter feminist’ label in their demand for a radical rethinking of societal structures and gender inequities. Framed by the 2024 International Women’s Day’s themes of diversity, inclusion, and agency, Ringret’s journey is revealed through interviews, archival footage, and voice narration exposing systemic forces that sustain gender oppression, such as misogyny (episode one), early marriage (episode two), gender roles (episode three), as well as the complexities of consent (episode four), and transactional sex (episode five). Weaving in broader analyses of patriarchy and failures in justice system, the film uncovers entrenched cultural and institutional obstacles while celebrating the unwavering resolve of women who resist oppressive norms and fight for their rights.
